Since July 2017, I am a freelance and independent consultant for the private and public sectors including various international organizations and governments; since June 2023 I am also connected to the Albright Stonebridge Group. My main topics are migration and urbanization (see the above link to our Sustainable Development Zones Alliance), sustainable development in line with the UN "Agenda 2030" and good governance / public management. Regional focal points include i.a. the countries of the Middle East and Africa as well as the Western Balkans.

Why am I sure? Goal-oriented and results-oriented work, especially in projects, is part of my DNA and has been my constant "leitmotif", e.g. as mayor of the industrial city of Sindelfingen, as chairman of the board of the city’s utility provider (Stadtwerke), as chairman of the KulturRegion Stuttgart, as Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and head of the hitherto largest civil UN peace keeping mission in Kosovo, as President of the UN Human Rights Council, as inspector general of the Foreign Office, as longtime German Ambassador and Special Representative of the Federal Government for the Middle East.
