Since July 2017, I am a freelance and independent consultant for the private and public sectors, including various international organizations and governments; since June 2023, I am also connected to DGA - Albright Stonebridge Group. My main topics are migration and urbanization (see the above link to the Sustainable Development Zones Alliance), sustainable development in line with the UN “Agenda 2030,” and good governance / public management (including in crisis and post-crisis contexts). Regional focal points include the countries of the MENA region, Africa, and the Western Balkans.

I have a particular interest in “Business & Human Rights”, including in cooperation with the German Olympic Sports Confederation DOSB .

In addition, I have been and remain affiliated with HfWU through various teaching assignments, including Macroeconomics, Sustainable Trade, and “Business & Human Rights.”

Why am I confident? Goal- and results-oriented work, especially in projects, is part of my DNA and has always been my guiding principle — for example, as Mayor of the industrial city of Sindelfingen, as Chairman of the Board of our successfully re-municipalized utilities, as Chairman of KulturRegion Stuttgart, as Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and head of the largest civilian UN peacekeeping mission to date (UNMIK), as President of the UN Human Rights Council, as Inspector General of the German Foreign Service, as longtime German Ambassador and as Special Representative of the Federal Government in the MENA region.
